99. NEW YORK I LOVE YOU, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
I’ve lived in New York City five years, and I never got to see LCD Soundsystem in concert. Breaks my heart. Would have loved moments like this, grooving in concert to James Murphy’s passive-aggressive ode to what New York City represents, and sadly, what it’s starting to become. Murphy is still around, but LCD Soundsystem got out while the getting was good, leaving us in the thralls of capitalist punk Mike Bloomberg furthering Rudy Giuliani’s vain cleanup-the-streets goals, turning NYC into one big theme park and widening the gap between local millionaires and the real people that make the city a vital, electric place. People that, yes, go to LCD Soundsystem shows.
The attached video features a performance of this song that brings a tear to my eye, as somewhere near the end he segues into “Empire State of Mind.”
