MY 100 FAVORITE SONGS

98. LITTLE PERSON, JON BRION

“Synecdoche New York” is a movie that immediately broke my heart, even though it took me a bit of time to realize why. Every moment of that film is tinged with human sadness, tremendous failure, and the struggles to connect with others. I’m not certain who the singer is for this lovely song, written and produced by Jon Brion, but it’s a song that not only greatly informs one of the great achievements in American film from the past few years, but is emotionally shattering as a standalone hymn.
